Adjusting Your
Lead
Leaders: Each follower
requires a different lead according to her ability. Some
of the more advanced followers require a lighter lead,
while others may need a little more help getting through
the moves. Leaders need to adjust accordingly!
Some of the more advanced followers often feel the "aftermath"
of a beginner follower. Leaders, please remember to
"adjust, adjust, adjust." Don't let his keep you from
dancing with beginners, though, as beginners will get better
more quickly if they can dance with more experienced dancers.
Followers: This is more for the
advanced follower who prefers a light lead and good dance
frame. How do we let our partner know to "lighten
up?" Unfortunately, they may not realize their lead is
too heavy unless told, but try not to do this on the
dance floor during the dance; instead, wait until the dance is
over. And hopefully it can be done tactfully and
politely! |

Members Spotlight
Do you know these
dancers?!

Larry Herbert - Born
and raised in Portsmouth, VA, Larry's family moved to
Charlottesville when he was 11. By day, he is a
real estate agent with McLean Faulconer Inc. Larry
first learned to Country 2-Step at Max Nightclub back in the
summer of 1992 with fellow addict and former co-worker Adela
Su. Anytime they got bored or stressed out at the
office, they'd meet in the hallway and practice
dance moves. They were even known to do a Cha Cha
or two out in the parking lot. Larry dances 3-4 times a
week and started competing in 2005 in WCS and Hustle Jack
& Jill competitions and ProAm with instructor Robin
Grimsby. Larry also dances in Salt Lake City where
girlfriend Susan lives. Larry is also an avid golfer, is
a former President of the Charlottesville Tennis Patrons
Association and has 2 handsome sons who are both in
graduate school. Larry is a former CSDS Board Of
Director (Treasurer).

Cindy Rogers - Also known as
the "Red Dress Hottie"!
Born in Bellingham, WA and now lives in Charlottesville near
Crozet. By day, Cindy owns a business providing
accounting services, business management consulting and life
coaching. Cindy took basic ballroom classes as a teen
but didn't dance on a regular basis until she started Country
Western dancing in 1991, with swing, hustle, waltz and cha cha
to follow after moving to Charlottesville in 2002. Cindy
dances 1-2 nights/week and owns 4 pairs of dance shoes (#5
coming soon). Cindy was a dancer in The Charlottesville
Showdowns, a WCS performance team, with partner Scott
Worthington. Cindy once owned and operated a Bed &
Breakfast in Knoxville, TN for 5 years! When Cindy isn't
dancing, she enjoys music, movies, reading, traveling, outdoor
activities and new experiences/adventures. Cindy is a
past CSDS Board Of Director and loves that there are so many
friendly, wonderful, fun-loving people in our Charlottesville
dance community!

West
Coast Swing Abroad Editor's Report from Norway
Eddie and
I had a fabulous trip to Norway in mid-July! We spent a
week there visiting Eddie's family and friends and introducing
me to Norway. Thanks to Facebook, we made
contact with some WCS dancers in Oslo before we left the
US. One evening we met up with them at a local bar
where we took over and cleared out a dance floor space
and play our own CD's! Eddie and I taught them a
few cool moves and we traded music CD's with each other.
The Norwegian dancers were incredibly friendly and
welcoming and very envious we have a large dance
community with so many opportunities for instruction and
regular dances each week. WCS is fairly new to Oslo and
they are hoping it will grow in popularity like it has here.
